What parts of the Calendula do you dry? Petals? Seeds? Picked green or dry? stems? Leaves? I see at least one seed in your photo of the powdered herb.

I pick the entire head and dry it, but I use just the petals. I find it easier to pick the petals off when it’s dry, and prefer those. But the entire flower is useful.

.... so, how is the rest of the flower used? I have plenty of calendula plants, so I can stick to petals for calendula oil or salve. Should I do something with the ton of seeds I get also (besides replanting everywhere I can)?

My 17 year old son made a dandelion is fused oil and then salve this spring. I’ve wanted to try forever but had r worked up the courage. He watched a couple videos and did it! I was very impressed! Thanks for the directions you use, I’ll share it with him also. We’re going to make a plantain salve with some other things in it soon. 💕

I’m going to save this post! I would be interested to learn if there is a way to make the oil without vodka. Could you use rubbing alcohol?

I rarely use rubbing alcohol in my herb preparations. It is of course poisonous and not for internal use whatsoever. Externally it can be used to make liniments, but I don't think it's very good for the skin, so I don't use it at all. You can just skip the alcohol extraction altogether and still make a really nice oil :)

I love infusing herbs, since you taught a group of us at my house how to infuse herbs, and make salve. Very Grateful, and Thankful for what I have learned from you. I have been infusing the herbs all together in one herbal infusion like you taught us since, so this is really informative, and new. Thank you, Keri. 🙂
